Movie Review: The Divide (2011)

Here at Movieslap.com, you can expect to read brief movie reviews without a lot of fluff. Think of it as a launching pad to discuss the film with friends, rather than some stuffy person telling you things that you don’t care about. Today, we look at The Divide (2011).

One of my favorite aspects of film discussion is when a clear rift emerges between the “professional critics” and the movie-going audience. There have been times when I sided with the critics, and others where I stood with the audience. Then you have those rare instances where BOTH camps panned the film, yet I end up throwing caution to the wind and watch it anyway. (YOLO!) Admittedly, most of the time when that happens, it’s because someone made a recommendation. The Divide is such an instance. 

Truth be told, I’m perplexed as to why the audience score on RT is as low as it is: 38%. Let’s face it, sometimes you just want a bit of mindless entertainment. In my opinion, that’s exactly what you get from this movie. So the next time you’re feeling extra sophisticated, overly critical, or detail oriented, pass this one by. But if and when the mood strikes to just turn off the brain and go for a crazy and fun ride, head over to the Tubi app (free with ads) – which is where you can see it as of the date of this review – and buckle up for a good time.
