The top 10 films of all time
Today I want to introduce you to my top 10 films of all time. These are not what I consider the best films ever, but more a combination of entertainment value, plus subjective appeal/connection, and a touch of overall artistic quality. A perpetual work-in-progress, but a collection of films that have stood the test of time.
Without further ado, here’s the list of the top 10 films of all time!
10: Borat (2006)
There’s no way I can have a top-10 list without the film that made me laugh harder in public than anything else in my life…ever. “Very NIIIICE!“

9: Donald Cried (2016)
A surprise entry to a list that has been pretty tough to crack for the past ten years. Really looking forward to my third viewing soon.

8: Pulp Fiction (1994)
Has the dubious distinction of being one of only a few films I re-watched immediately after the first viewing. The quintessential, “Just HAVE to see what’s going to happen next” films. Tarantino’s masterpiece. This is a near flawless movie and the ending will have you wondering what you just watched (in a good way!).

7: The Matrix (1999)
One of the greatest sci-fi films of all-time. I will never forget how, as I was seeing it for the first time, it clicked what the Matrix was. The special effects weren’t just eye-candy, but instead helped you understand the world. It’s truly a shame they never made a sequel, or perhaps rounded out a trilogy…

6: Sideways (2002)
I love buddy films, and this one has it all. I’ve always been a Giamatti fan, but Thomas Hayden Church steals the show here. Definitely recommend you see this one.

5: Bubba Ho-Tep (2002)
Most people know Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series, but this is the film that made me a fan. It has been described as a “redemptive Elvis mummy film”, and became a cult classic in short order. Most people I talk to have never heard of it, but I can safely say that I think almost everyone will enjoy the performance, even if you aren’t an Elvis fan.

4: Swingers (1996)
The 1990s were the best decade of my life, and I found myself relating to, and bonding with, the characters here. Starring Vince Vaughn, Healther Graham, and Jon Favreau, how can you not love it? This film is “money, baby…and you don’t even know it.“

3: Star Wars Original Trilogy (1977-1983)
While technically this is three movies, in my mind they’re a single continuous story. Without question, and by a large margin, the single most influential films of my life. I will forever feel indebted to George Lucas for this gift to my childhood, that has kept on giving into adulthood. I’ll let you decide if Han shot first…

2: Braveheart (1995)
The only 3-hour film I saw twice in the theater. Incredible casting, a moving score, and beautifully shot.

1: Life is Beautiful (1997)
No movie has ever left me completely numb as the credits rolled as this one did, which is why I’ve seen it only three times. Part of the reason why I fell in love with my ex-wife was because of her reaction to this film.

If you’re wondering why these reviews are so short, it’s because I want the site to be like friends talking about movies. Nobody you know has ever talked for ten minutes straight about a single film, and I want to replicate that feeling here. I’ll talk a bit more about individual films, but this is meant to just give a brief description of why I love each of these flicks.
